Our Buffalo location is closed this afternoon, December 10, due to a power outage. We hope to resume normal operations in Buffalo tomorrow.
What's included in my child's registration fee?
The Spring Break Camp registration fee includes camp activities, materials, daily snack, and a camp t-shirt. Campers are required to bring a lunch each day.
What is your cancellation policy for Spring Break Camps?
If your Spring Break Camp registration is cancelled more than 14 days prior to the camp start date, your registration fee will be refunded, minus a $50 cancellation fee. No refunds will be offered for registrations cancelled less than 14 days prior to the start of the camp session.
Are there scholarships available for Spring Break Camps?
There are no scholarships available for Spring Break Camps.
My child would like to attend camp with a friend. Will they be together for the entire day?
Not necessarily. Each camp day includes activities for the full group (15-20 campers, depending on location) as well as small groups (3-6 campers). These groups are changed throughout the day to fit the needs of a particular activity or to address group behavior. Campers who attend with friends will have ample opportunity to be together, including sitting together at lunch, but we will not guarantee that they will participate in every activity together.
What time does Spring Break Camp start in the morning?
Camp hours run from 9AM-4PM.
What kinds of activities do campers participate in?
Spring Break Campers will participate in some of the same activities offered in our Summer Camps. Spring Break Camps will offer an incredibly unique experience as campers work together to produce and perform a play at the end of the week.
My child attended Summer Camp this year. Will the Spring Break Camp activities be the same things she did at summer camp?
No. We have many children who attend camp with us year after year, so we make a point to offer a variety of new activities each time. Some activities simply can't be changed (animal interactions, for example, are limited to certain activities for the safety of the campers and the animals), and we sometimes repeat activities that were especially popular - but staff strive to plan as many new themes, games, crafts, and learning activities as possible for every camp.
Will my child be working directly with shelter animals?
Each day at camp includes time where kids are interacting with shelter animals, but that's only one part of the camp experience; Spring Break Camp includes lots of other animal-related activities, too. Please note that Spring Break Camp is not a junior volunteer program; campers will not be performing shelter volunteer duties during camp.
Can I drop my child off early, or pick them up late after camp?
Unfortunately, we do not have extended childcare available. If camp hours are a challenge for your family, invite a friend whose family would be able to provide transportation.
Where should my child go on the first day of camp?
Campers should come to the main adoption entrance at the shelter. Our shelters are not open until 12:00 noon on weekdays, but camp staff will come out to welcome campers shortly before 9:00 am.
At the end of the online registration process, you will be prompted to download a page with more information about camp. This newsletter will include information about checking in and signing out, what to wear, items to bring, etc.
What kinds of snacks do you provide for campers?
We do our best to provide kid-friendly and healthy snacks. Snacks may include things like popcorn, cheese crackers, pretzels, trail mix, applesauce, granola bars, Chex mix, etc. If your child has food allergies, please discuss this with camp staff to make sure snacks are appropriate for your child; or if you prefer, you may also send snacks from home.
