PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Daily cleaning of animal areas
  • Monitor appetite, hydration, stools and vomit of all shelter animals
  • Daily collection of fecals during cleaning process
  • Respond to pager calls to assist with incoming animals, food program pickup, and donations
  • Euthanasia restraint
  • Ensure proper feeding of animals
  • Move animals throughout shelter as needed
  • Perform spot cleanings in Adoption Center
  • Daily cleaning of transfer cages, litter boxes, dishes, laundry and donated goods
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma required, some college education preferred
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Leadership abilities, good problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Clean driving record and ability to travel in the metro area required
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, as well as bend, squat and lift heavy objects

Job Title: Animal Behavior & Training Assistant

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process programs applications for all sites
  • Create and maintain accurate database records
  • Prepare daily Training Department deposits
  • Assist in the updating, development, and writing of training curriculums, as directed
  • Coordinate implementation of new programs, including scheduling and creating printed materials
  • Oversee all administrative aspects of Rabbit Agility program, including registration, applications, and contact with customers
  • Work with appropriate personnel to ensure Training web pages are updated and accurate; add new information as directed
  • Order, price and display merchandise
  • Triage incoming phone calls and route appropriately
  • Generate monthly financial reports using Excel and/or Access database
  • Order department supplies and process invoices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-secondary education in related field and minimum of 2-3 years of experience in office setting
  • Ability to read and interpret general business and financial forms
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from both internal and external customers
  • Ability to perform basic calculations, such as discounts, percentages and proportions
  • Must be highly organized and able to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of individuals
  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrative proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access and Word
  • Good telephone skills and pleasant, upbeat attitude
  • Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of euthanasia

Job Title: Staff Veterinarian - Shelter Medicine and Surgical
Job ID & Hours:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform daily vet checks and assist in examination of animals to determine adoptability of shelter animals according to shelter protocols.
  • Work collaboratively with Senior Veterinarian, Animal Services Manager, Supervisor and technicians to ensure animals are properly cared for and moving efficiently through shelter.
  • Work collaboratively with Senior Veterinarian to develop and evaluate current protocols to ensure the health of the animals and sanitation of the building.
  • Perform physical examinations on animals seized in Cruelty Investigations.
  • Work collaboratively with the Humane Investigators to draft supporting reports for cruelty investigations and provide supportive testimony in hearings.
  • Consult with Senior Veterinarian as required ensuring primary purpose of position is met
  • Regularly investigate animal containment areas and recommend improvements related to proper health management, disease prevention and sanitation/disinfection.
  • Perform surgical sterilization of adoptable animals as required
  • Assist Animal Services Trainer in daily evaluation of animal services staff to ensure protocols are being followed and staff is trained efficiently.
  • Be respectful of coworkers and treat both subordinate and superior staff in a professional manner.
  • Complete wellness and surgical procedures in a competent, safe and efficient manner.
  • Participate in special events as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as liaison between AHS and local veterinary and academic community as required
  • Assist Senior Veterinarian in the investigation of disease outbreaks to ensure protocols and practices are being followed and recommend changes if necessary.

SKILLS & ABILITIES NECESSARY:

  • Ability to handle complex and/or emotional situations
  • Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends
  • Strong computer skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree
  • License to practice Veterinary Medicine in Minnesota
  • Extensive adult and pediatric spay/neuter experience
  • Preferred candidates will have at least one year of shelter experience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Answer incoming calls to Boarding Department and assist customers as required
  • Enter reservations and other information into the computer
  • Maintain pet cages and areas at the highest practical level of cleanliness
  • Properly feed pets in the Boarding area in accordance with prescribed procedures
  • Care for Boarding pets (letting out, walking, etc.)
  • Perform other as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Professional and positive attitude
  • Ability to work with all levels of employees and the general public
  • Good computer skills
  • Effective communications skills
