Summit's Success Story

Summit's Success Story

After losing their dog of 12 years, Robert and Angie were taking their time searching for another companion. Just before Easter, they came across a photo of a dog on the Animal Humane Society website. He had the happiest little face and was sporting a pair of bunny ears! His photo was too cute to resist, so Robert and Angie went to meet the dog, known then as Pookie. They fell in love with him, brought him home and gave him a new name for a fresh start: Summit.

Summit’s journey to Robert and Angie’s house began approximately 750 miles south of Minnesota in Oklahoma where he was picked up by a group called Save Our Strays. Through an ongoing partnership with Animal Humane Society, Save Our Strays rescues dogs and puppies that would likely be euthanized due to the lack of resources and space available in Oklahoma. They bring the dogs to the Twin Cities where they are vaccinated, sterilized and made available for adoption.

Summit is now living the good life in Minnesota. He enjoys the snow and no weather conditions keep him from his daily walk. He loves playing with toys and excels at destroying them as fast as Robert and Angie can buy them. And when he’s all tuckered out at the end of the day, he gets to curl up on a warm bed and go to sleep. Robert and Angie are so happy that their sweet and goofy companion hitched a ride to Minnesota, and are grateful for the tireless efforts of Save Our Strays, giving so many dogs a second chance at life in Minnesota.
